Peter McCloy was warned that Sevco will have to spend fortunes during the summer to halt Celtic’s march to 10-in-a-row.

The obsessed former Ibrox keeper sums up the attitude that is killing off the tribute act as Mark Warburton tries to find his feet in the top flight of Scottish football.

Rather than establishing a sustainable club capable of challenging for honours in the future the demand is to find money from unknown sources to stop the most successful club in the country.

Speaking to The Sun McCloy said: “The big worry for Rangers and the fans is stopping Celtic before they win ten in a row.

They’ll have made it six by the end of this season. Therefore money is going to have to be spent next summer to bring the quality that’s needed into the club so they can make a proper challenge.

Rangers need to give the fans some hope but where that money will come from I don’t know.

Stopping the Treble this season is a big thing but it’s more important to move closer to where Celtic are now, because there is a gulf.

Celtic haven’t had to work for their last three or four titles and we need to be able to push them more. Rangers equalled Celtic’s Nine in a Row when people said that it could never be done again but if Celtic win ten or more now that will never be repeated — and that is the concern for Rangers.”

For McCloy’s benefit Celtic have had to work very hard for every trophy that they have ever won- paying 40% and more of their players salaries to HMRC while the bulk of trophies paraded at Ibrox over the last 30 years have been funded through various tax avoidance schemes.
