Brendan Rodgers is confident that he’ll get at least two seasons out of Moussa Dembele.

The Celtic striker added to his glowing reputation in midweek when he capped an impressive display by scoring from the penalty spot to earn Celtic a 1-1 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Dembele’s double against Manchester City raised his profile from promising teenager into the real deal with the biggest clubs in the game now watching his every move.

Rodgers signed Dembele onto a four year contract when he completed the switch from Fulham and knows how the transfer market works.

If Dembele had signed up to a two year contract Celtic would be in an entirely different position but with a long term deal agreed Rodgers is comfortable with the transfer situation.

He’s a 19-year-old boy who has come in here and signed a four-year deal,” the Celtic boss explained.

When they sign a deal for four years I hope they can stay here for four years but if you get a big offer after two or three years, then that’s what happens.

Using Moussa as an example, the minimum for him in his development would be to be here for two years. That would set him up very well if he was to move.”

The record transfer fee paid for a player in Scotland is the £12m that Celtic picked up from Southampton for Victor Wanyama, when Dembele leaves the fee is almost certain to smash that figure.
