Chris Sutton has loved Celtic’s Champions League return as much as anyone but he doesn’t give the bhoys a hope against Barcelona on Wednesday.
Brendan Rodgers side lost 7-0 in the Nou Camp at the start of the campaign and must beat Barca, or win away to Manchester City, to stand a chance of remaining in Europe after Christmas.
Celtic Park will be the centre of European football on Wednesday night as the place rocks with anticipation and the hope that Rodgers’ side can repeat the team of 2012 who stunned Barca with a famous win.
Sutton will be willing the bhoys on from the commentary box but fears that a repeat of that victory is too much to wish for.
“Wednesday night is another level again,” he admitted in the Daily Record after praising Celtic’s performance away to Borussia Monchengladbach. “I’ll be honest, I can’t see any way Celtic can win. Barcelona boast the best front three in the world and the worrying things is they need to win to top the group.
“That makes them even more dangerous and all Celtic fans can do is dream. They need to produce another performance like they did under Neil Lennon in 2012, like Brendan Rodgers managed against City.
“They good thing is they have a manager who knows what he is doing and match winners in his side. If they call pull off a result it won’t just be a special night, it would arguably be their greatest ever result in Europe.”
Celtic go into matchday five trailing Borussia Monchengladbach by two points and also in the head to head matches meaning that they must take three points from their remaining matches and hope Gladbach lose both of their games to advance into the Europa League.
