It didn’t take Joe Garner long to inherit the arrogance that comes from the marble staircase of dignity.
With three goals since his £1.8m move from Preston North End most players would be playing it low key as they adapt to life at a new club in a new league. Not Garner.
All it took was a 3-0 win over Kilmarnock and dropped points by St Johnstone, Hearts and Aberdeen for the delusions to kick in.
Any reasonable person would suggest that there is little between those four clubs who appear to be a little more competent than the seven at the bottom who are separated by just four points after the weekend results.
Rather than find their feet and do their talking on the park it seems that Sevco players are on some sort of self delusion course where they need to wind up opponents. ‘We are not looking behind us’ according to Garner before Sevco dropped to third place, behind Aberdeen in the race to finish second to Celtic.
“We have played well the last few games and we are looking forward to the game at the weekend,” Garner said looking back at a defeat from Celtic, draw with St Johnstone and win over Kilmarnock.
“We will keep working hard and go on from there. We are not looking behind us. As a team we are looking up and hopefully we can put a little run together.
“We just take it game by game. Hopefully we can put three points up at the weekend against Ross County.
“We have watched a few videos of County and they have been a bit unlucky. We will go into the game confident after playing really well on Saturday and we are confident we can get a result up there.”
Garner was substituted after 64 minutes in today’s 1-1 draw without adding to his tally for the season.
Sevco are a point behind Aberdeen and one ahead of St Johnstone and Hearts who they have to visit before the winter break.
