Hull City have enforced a 12 month extension onto the contract of Robert Snodgrass.

The Scotland star is now committed to the club until June 2018 and won’t be able to discuss a pre-contract agreement in January.

Snodgrass was thought to be a potential Celtic signing but that is likely to be put on the back burner with a transfer fee now required.

The 29-year-old has never hidden his support for Celtic although he turned down the chance to sign as a youth team player in favour of joining Livingston in the hope of getting an early crack at first team football.

In 2008 he moved to Leeds United before a stint with Norwich and a £6m transfer to Hull in June 2014.

Despite suffering a serious injury on his Hull debut Snodgrass battled back after a year out of action to help the club managed by Steve Bruce to promotion.

The three year contract that he signed gave the club the option to extend the deal by 12 months with a similar clause in Andy Robertson’s contract also activated.

Newcastle were linked with Snodgrass earlier this week but with 18 months rather than six left on his contract Hull will now be able to bargain for a bigger transfer fee although the player will have the final say on any move.
