True Blue Andy Halliday has surrendered the SPFL title to Celtic.

Despite an incredible three match winning run the Sevco midfielder feels that a 14 point gap might be too much for Mark Waburton’s men to make up.

In April this year no-one celebrated a Scottish Cup penalty shoot-out victory more than the man who was brought up in the squalor of Copland Road.

Four years into the journey Sevco were poised to dominate Scottish football, fired up by revenge and handing out lessons to the enemies of Rangers.

At that stage #goingfor55 was reality and not another source of amusement at the expense of the gullibles.

Today, looking up towards the league leaders Halliday failed to share Barrie McKay’s optimism that the SPFL trophy is poised to move from the top of Kerrydale Street to the wasteland that true blue Halliday was brought up in.

Such are the expectations and demands we place on ourselves, we want to win every single game,” the Daily Record reports Halliday saying. “But we’ve probably dropped too many points already this season to be in a title race as such at this time.

“But it’s important for us that we continue to keep picking up points and chip away at that lead.

“The last three weeks have been a lot better. It was important for us that we started putting in better performances and the most pleasing thing for me was that it was three very convincing performances and we’ve managed to get nine points out of it.”

Over their three epic wins Sevco haven’t been chipping away at Celtic’s lead, the gap has lengthened from eight to fourteen as the hoops catch up on their fixture backlog caused by their domestic and European successes.

With Dave King withdrawing his over investment plan it looks like a 14 point gap in December will be as good as it gets for Halliday and Warburton.

With more soft loans required in March to back up the soft loans received in October Sevco are virtually trading while insolvent. When administration visits with a 15 point penalty and savage cuts in playing staff Halliday might finally get in touch with some sort of reality.
