Lennon trying for emergency Commons deal

Neil Lennon is hoping to rush through an emergency loan deal to include Kris Commons against Morton tomorrow!

While the SFA and SPFL rules can be open to interpretation it’s difficult to see how bringing in a player vastly experienced can be justified as an emergency.

If Hibs wanted to take Regan Hendry, Mark Hill or Theo Archibald from Celtic a case could possibly be made but bringing in a tried, tested and highly paid player like Commons seems an entirely different matter.

Hibs are level on points with Dundee United at the top of the Championship with Lennon concerned about the way his squad has been depleted.

Asked about bringing in someone on an emergency loan Lennon told The Sun: “That’s an option and something we are looking at.

We have to go domestic and can’t go elsewhere for someone short-term. We have to get someone as soon as possible and we’ve made some calls.”

Morton currently have Jamie Lindsay and Aidan Nesbitt on loan from Celtic with both players brought in during the summer transfer window.

Commons is expected to leave Celtic next month but is likely to get offers from the USA and elsewhere as well as the option to head along the M8 to rejoin Lennon at Hibs.
