Steven McLean will referee Saturday’s match between Sevco and Celtic at Ibrox.

McLean is best known for his incredible display during Celtic’s 2015 Scottish Cup semi-final defeat from Inverness Caley Thistle at Hampden.

With Celtic leading 1-0 McLean, assistant Frank Connor and additional assistant Alan Muir all missed Josh Meekings punch a netbound Leigh Griffiths header to safety.

It seems incredible that all three officials failed to spot a blatant foul which should have seen Meekings red carded and Celtic awarded a penalty.

That incident really should have put a halt on McLean’s career but it seems to have had the reverse effect, last season he got to handle the Scottish Cup Final between Hibs and Sevco.

Connor will also be at Ibrox as an assistant while John Beaton, who has had a complete nightmare of a season will be the fourth official.

Celtic’s 5-1 win over Sevco was refereed by Willie Collum while Craig Thomson had the whistle for the 1-0 League Cup semi-final win at Hampden.

McLean’s brother Brian started his playing career with Rangers (IL) and memorably made two appearances for Northern Ireland’s u-21 side before finding out that he was only eligible to play for Scotland.
