Warbo’s pre-season title boast

Mark Warburton has certainly changed his tune from his pre-season title winning prediction.

Ahead of facing Celtic at Ibrox tomorrow the former city trader has been quick to distance himself from the #goingfor55 slogan used to shift season tickets in the summer.

With Joey Barton, Niko Kranjcar and Jordan Rossiter pulling the strings in midfield no one in Scotland would be able to live with the Scottish Cup Finalists.

To top things off, as if Kenny Miller and Martyn Waghorn weren’t going to provide enough goals Warbo splashed out £1.8m for Preston’s prolific marksman Joe Garner.

What could possibly go wrong with the bright young manager in the dug out planning global domination?

Ahead of the opening game of the season The Scotsman reported Warbo saying: “Everyone asks me where we’re going to finish, how well will we do? If I say to the players, ‘let’s finish third’, what kind of message is that? It’s the same as telling the fans we want to finish in the top six. They are not going to buy that.

We want to finish as high as we can, to say we’ll win it is naive and foolish, but do I think we’ve got a good enough squad to do it? Yes, I think we have. All the teams will feel ?the same but we’ve added another layer of quality and we’re in good shape.”

The squad that Warbo thought was capable of winning the SPFL has won 11 matches out of 20, Celtic have won 18 out of 19.

With Dave King withdrawing the warchest the man with the magic hat will need to conjure up a few winning hands if he is to hang onto second place never mind fulfill his pre-season boast that he had a squad good enough to win the title.
