The making of Broony

Scott Brown will return to Ibrox tomorrow and look back fondly on one of the key moments in his Celtic career.

Sunday, 6th February 2011 is a date Brown won’t forget in a hurry as an iconic celebration was launched on the back of an incredible Celtic display.

In a Scottish Cup tie Kris Commons equalised an early strike from Jamie Ness in the 16th minute but was substituted seven minutes from half-time when Lucasz Zaluska came on as Fraser Forster was red carded.

Steven Whittaker put the Ibrox club in front from the penalty spot with the 10 man visitors dominating the second half.

Midway through the second period Mark Wilson laid the ball into Brown’s path with the hoops skipper producing the perfect strike and celebration which earned him a booking from Calum Murray.

It was up with the best goals I have scored for Celtic, especially since we were down to 10 men,” Brown told the Evening Times.

Rangers were a good strong, physical team back then and for us to come back in the second half and score was big for us.

If fell on to my left foot and luckily enough, I found the back of the net. It was a great occasion as we had to dig deep with 10 men and believe in ourselves.

We created chances, scored a goal and enjoyed the day.

Was it a pivotal moment in my Celtic career? Yeah, I’d say so.

No matter who we are playing, I enjoy playing with a smile on my face and winning leagues. I want to continue doing that.”

Brown and Emilio Izaguirre are the only survivors from that Celtic side of 2011 that will be involved again at Ibrox.
