Jack Aitchison has been called into the Celtic first team squad and is on the bench for the visit of Hearts.

The young striker made a blistering debut in May scoring with his first touch as a substitute in the 7-0 win over Motherwell in Ronny Deila’s farewell match.

Aitchison became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer with that strike coming just three months after his 16th birthday.

Brendan Rodgers included Aitchison and Calvin Miller in the squad that played against Inter Milan in a pre-season friendly but game wise the young striker has been in the Development Squad.

Playing in the Premier League International Cup and UEFA Youth League has given him vital experience while the appearance of Karamoko Dembele in a Development League match at the age of 13 has taken the spotlight away from Aitchison.

Rodgers has a strong commitment to developing academy players and is keen to bring younger players in for meaningful matches.

Miller was given a starting slot against Partick Thistle before Christmas, with Aitchison on the bench today against Hearts all of the younger players know that their performances are being monitored with obvious rewards.
