Brendan Rodgers has assured Celtic fans that he’s in control of the deadline day transfer frenzy.

After putting the Craig Gordon to Chelsea story to bed yesterday the hoops boss discovered that unwelcome bids were coming in for Moussa Dembele and Erik Sviatchenko.

Celtic are relatively cash rich but with silly money swilling around English football some bids may be hard to resists.

The hoops have effectively been priced out of the English transfer market but with a squad full of Champions League players Rodgers squad is the envy of many Premier League sides.

Speaking yesterday the Celtic boss told the Daily Record: “When there’s speculation around your players it means something is going okay. It’s been Moussa, Craig, Kieran and probably Boyata will be next. So it’s all good. My job is to control the background noise – don’t worry so much.

We’re in total control. There’s no drama. I don’t think we’ll get in what we want to get in but we’ve got a great squad of players here.

I wanted to strengthen in January. I want to improve the team but only when the right players become available and I just don’t think it’s going to be.

We’ve made one fantastic signing in Eboue. We wanted a couple more but it’s not going to happen. I don’t waste my time worrying about it. We’ll get it done in the summer.”

Rodgers will take Celtic training this morning for tomorrow’s match against Aberdeen against a backdrop of speculation about his players.

A new contract for Gordon should resolve that situation while the departure of Dembele has been something that the hoops boss has had to contend with for six months.

Dembele and his agent see Celtic as vital to his development, six months after leaving Fulham it’s unlikely that their plans will have changed greatly even if a £40m bid was to arrive from Chelsea.
