Aberdeen send out McInnes warning

Sevco will have to come up with £1m in compensation to Aberdeen if they want to take Derek McInnes to Ibrox.

According to a report in The Sun it would cost the tribute act £1m to release McInnes from his Pittodrie contract which runs until the summer of 2019.

Having forced through the departure of Mark Warburton to avoid a £1m plus pay off it’s highly unlikely that Dave King would agree to pay out compensation for a replacement.

The former Rangers (IL) midfielder managed St Johnstone and Bristol City before replacing Craig Brown in the Pittodrie hotseat in 2013.

Aberdeen finished second to Celtic in season 14/15 and 15/16 and are on course for second place again this season with Sevco’s campaign looking to be on the brink of collapsing.

In many circumstances McInnes would be the ideal candidate to manager Sevco but on the other hand the Ibrox club looks unlikely to boost the career of the current Aberdeen boss. His long term assistant Tony Docherty is unlikely to follow him should he decided to move to Ibrox.

With compensation out of the question Sevco are likely to turn to Alex McLeish or Billy Davies, who are both currently unemployed, to come in on an interim basis until the end of the season.
