Weary Warbo facing the end

Under fire Sevco boss Mark Warburton has signed his own dismissal note by warning Ibrox fans that next season the gap to Celtic could widen!

Nine months ago life couldn’t have been sweeter for the former city trader as he basked in the glory of a Scottish Cup win over Celtic.

The fact that they had won on penalties and been outplayed for 75 of the 120 minutes was ignored as the gullible fed off the notion that their tribute act were poised to smash their way to the Premier League title and end their 10-in-a-row nightmare at the first time of asking.

Having uncovered gems like Wesley Foderingham, Rob Kiernan, Martyn Waghorn and the Blue Cafu (James Tavernier) Warbo was given the funds in the summer to put Celtic in their place.

What could possibly go wrong as Clint Hill, Jordan Rossiter, Joe Dodoo, Nicky Kranjcar, Joe Garner and others signed up to #goingfor55 ?

Twenty-three matches into the new season and it’s all gone horribly, tragically wrong.

Some fans are questioning if Warbiola really does have a magic hat as Kenny Miller and Hill try to hold off the challenge from Aberdeen.

After three brutal lessons from Brendan Rodgers March 12 isn’t a date to look forward to unless your hobby is smashing up toilets with club approval.

Yesterday Warbo faced the music after being hammered by Hearts. The former city trader said that he didn’t see a 4-1 defeat coming- plenty disagreed and felt that a reality check was overdue.

Having watched a financially doped club cheat on Her Majesty and every club in Scotland for decades Warbo has to deal with expectations that are as out of time as the chants and songs of his supporters.

With a smaller stadium, smaller crowds, smaller commercial revenue, smaller sponsorship deals and smaller European revenue Warbo is expected to use his raw managerial talent to close the gap and put Celtic in their place.

It’s not a job for a football rookie more at home with spreadsheets and power-points in the city of London.

Explaining his failure to live upto expectations Warbo told the Evening Times: “We have to build. Where should we be? Challenging Celtic and challenging for the league – that’s where we need to be. And right now we have a situation where the financial income they have from the Champions League makes it a vicious circle. There’s £30-odd million coming in.

How do we close that gap? We have to find a way. But is it easy? Absolutely not. All we can do is be as transparent as possible as a club to you guys and say, ‘right now there is £30m more of income coming in over there.’

We are not in the Champions League next year – they are. So the gap could widen again but we have to find a way. Time and giving young players a chance to develop is one way.”

With no club remotely interested in Warbo’s misfits and Barrie Mackay the sole product from the five year journey to mediocrity it’s only a matter of time before Warbo is given a one way Easyjet to Luton and back to his home comforts.
