In August 2012 Ally McCoist’s garden was particularly rosy.

Just over one million shares were about to be delivered at a cost of one penny each while Charles Green was proving his commitment to the company.

A cup of tea in exchange for buying a season ticket had the fans racing to hand over their money as a brave new era got under way.

Having TUPE’d over his £800,000 salary life couldn’t have been sweeter, three seasons of routine victories would have the company in the top flight and the chance to avenge their enemies who had closed the door as the old club went into liquidation- screwing 276 creditors in the process.

After working under Walter Smith, McCoist had the chance to demonstrate his coaching ability working alongside RRM like Green.

As he put his squad together it was hard for the former Question of Sport skipper to hold back his delight.

Our fans deserve to see top-class players at Ibrox and this is just the start of the rebuilding process,” McCoist told The Scotsman. “We have already added top quality to the squad – Ian Black, Fran Sandaza, Dean Shiels, Emilson Cribari and Kevin Kyle – and I can assure fans more players will follow before the transfer deadline.

We need to add to the squad to prepare for the next two seasons in the SFL and season ticket money is a major source of income for the club.”

None of those top quality signings made it through the journey to the top flight of Scottish football, neither did McCoist.
