John Hartson believes that Bobby Madden should be questioned about his derby day horror show.

Brutal challenges from Kenny Miller and Jason Holt went unpunished before the last gasp penalty call that left Brendan Rodgers and Leigh Griffiths fuming.

Having escaped from a pull by Clint Hill on the edge of the penalty box Griffiths was waiting for the ball to drop before shooting from 12 yards out.

The Sevco defender clattered through Griffiths with his right foot connecting at the waist sending the striker tumbling to the ground.

Madden was seen by television cameras mouthing that ‘he got the ball’ while his main apologists claimed that he couldn’t give the decision because he didn’t have a clear view of the clash.

If a FIFA referee can’t get into position to view an incident like that, or make use of his assistant, he should spend more time brushing up on his technique working with the Juniors away from the spotlight.

Looking back at the match in The Sun Hartson writes: “It’s fine turning up at Parkhead and raising their game but that’s not exactly title-challenging form.

They should also remember, when they think back to last Sunday, that Celtic should have been awarded a penalty in the dying seconds.

What was referee Bobby Madden thinking?

How on earth did he fail to see that Leigh Griffiths was brought down inside the box by Clint Hill?

I just couldn’t understand it and for me the referee has to be questioned on that.

It wasn’t good enough because the decision denied Celtic the victory.”

It appears that Madden’s performance, like Steven McLean at the 2015 Scottish Cup semi-final between Celtic and Inverness Caley Thistle, is deemed acceptable by those involved.
