King on the brink

Despite the reassurances through the Daily Record that all is well, the boardroom shuffle at Ibrox has did nothing to quell speculation and rumours of trouble within the club.

Dave King admitted that he was a reluctant chairman during his stop off last week- with two of his men removed from the board of the TRFC (football side) he now has no inside track on the real decision making within the club.

Paul Murray and John Gilligan retain their blazers with RIFC (the holding company/vehicle) but as non-executives their day to day involvement has been cut off.

Borders banker Murray was involved in the recruitment of Brother Pedro but has now been dumped on the outside as the club apparently looks to appoint a Director of Football.

With Graeme Park included in the deckchair shuffle it saves face for Murray and Gilligan who have no real financial input or expertise to offer other than being right good bluenoses.

The move has marginalised King further from the club- the flow of information from the blue room to Johannesburg has dried up not that King will be overly worried.

It seems only a matter of time before King steps down allowing the company to disassociate themselves with the South African based criminal and the ruling from the Takeover Appeal Board.

Any sanctions from TAB will apply on King, not the club, and could allow the them to advance slightly but still burdened by the debts to the three bears, a crumbling stadium and a massive gap to Celtic on the park.

With King’s toxic reputation gone the three bears can try to come up with a sustainable plan that is unlikely to stop Celtic anytime soon but could retain football at Ibrox, how acceptable that is to the people with an in born superiority complex remains the $64m question.

Without King, Sports Direct may be more friendly provided the terms are in their favour.

Five years after being formed there is no plan or direction in place at Ibrox other than a desire to stop Celtic with various boards, chief executives and managers unable to make any sort of footballing progress.

Unless Brother Pedro really is a cross between Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers the day of reckoning has only been delayed, being RRM in the boardroom won’t wash as they explain to the support the need to work with Sports Direct and a five year plan to create a sustainable club while keeping a roof above their heads.
