With the Big Tax Case back in the spotlight, online anyway, an old guest has come out of cold storage. The award winning Rangers Tax Case.

Back in the early days of 2011 with internet speculation about the extent of the cash crisis at Ibrox RTC emerged setting the agenda with a string of revelations about how Dave Murray was using a tax scam to compete with Celtic for trophies.

Employee Benefit Trust’s soon became an established part of the football chat as speculation mounted about who was on EBTs and how much was getting stashed away.

Looking back it was incredible how Murray was able to attract names like Ronald de Boer, Tore Andre Flo, Michael Ball, Stefan Klos and Dado Prso to Ibrox.

With a smaller stadium, less supportive fans and lesser commercial deals it was just assumed that it was the Murray magic that brought players from some of the biggest clubs in Europe to play in front of halfwits from Kilwinning and Larkhall.

RTC was able to delve under the mystery and shine a torch into what was going on.

While Murray boasted about spending a tenner for every fiver Celtic spent the reality was slightly different.

With a budget of £10m Celtic could afford to pay five players £1m/year with the other £5m going to HMRC.

Over at Ibrox loyal Sir Dave could bring in eight players or four on £2m/year to compete with Celtic leaving HMRC with just £2m from the quintessentially British club.

With it’s twitter feed restored RTC will provide some telling points on the great football stitch up which no one inside the game was prepared to question- even after the doors of Ibrox were booted down on request by the Metropolitan Police and the club finally admitted a liability of £2.8m relating to the payments made De Boer and Flo but withheld from the SFA and SPl.
