Brendan Rodgers hasn’t missed the target as he slams the misguided fools that thought up the #goingfor55 campaign.

The absurd claim that Charles Green’s tribute act have any relation to the 54 Scottish titles won by cheating Her Majesty and every club in Scotland, and many in Europe, is one issue.

Convincing supporters that a team including Andy Halliday, Martyn Waghorn and Rob Kiernan could win the title from Celtic is almost a case for the Advertising Standards Authority.

Any PR company involved at Ibrox however knows never to underestimate just how gullible the bears are.

After being taken for a ride for five years, filling the bank accounts of Charles Green, Ally McCoist, Mike Ashley, Graham Wallace, Craig Mather, Imran Ahmad, Kevin Kyle, Andrew Dickson, Lee Wallace, Kenny McDowall and others it wasn’t difficult to sell #goingfor55 to the bears.

A magic hat, Joey Barton and Nick Kranjcar was enough to convince the bears that this would be their year and that Celtic had lost the plot by bringing in a guy that had never won a Petrofac Cup.

A draw on Sunday will see #goingfor55 dumped on the same bonfire as 276 creditors were in 2012 with the Celtic boss up for the challenge.

He even fancies a home win over Graeme Murty’s Galacticos.

They obviously thought they could win the league,” Rodgers told the Daily Record.

Let’s be clear that when I came up here – after the Scottish Cup semi-final game and their promotion – all the propaganda before a ball was kicked was that before the end of the season they’d be going for 55.

So, they obviously had the genuine feeling that they could win the league. I just think that was the message that was out there from them. It’s pretty clear that was the message but all you can do as a team is your own work and our players have been brilliant at that.

I wasn’t surprised that message was out there because I was new into it and I had no thought for it either way. But we’ve just done our work, quietly prepared the team players’ development and improvement and it’s taken us to this point.

We know that if we win the game, that eliminates Rangers out of it totally, but it doesn’t really matter. We want to continue with our focus on winning games and we’ll continue with that.”
