Former bull-fighter Pedro Caixinha is today’s favourite to take over as manager of Sevco.
The desperate search for a new manager has taken the club to Qatar with managing director Stewart Robertson promising fans that they are looking at outstanding candidates..
After 18 years in management the highlight of Caixinha’s career was a three year spell with Mexican side Santos Laguna where he led the Mexican hoops to one league title.
The 48-year-old has never been a manager at any European club but is being touted as the man to knock Brendan Rodgers off his mantle.
Writing in last night’s match programme for the match with St Johnstone Robbo told the fans: “Our search has been narrowed down to a few outstanding candidates, who we believe possess the necessary skills and attributes.
“We have been deliberately forensic in our search, studying every detail of each manager’s character, his work and his style and we have sought many references for those who have stood out from the rest.
“Above all though, our next manager will be someone who understands that defeat can never be acceptable.
“Rangers is synonymous with winning and we will select a manager who is also a winner.
“Frankly, results must improve and so it is vital that we appoint soon. Doing so will also allow our new manager a few months to assess the current squad while formalising his summer recruitment plans. Again, the funds are there to support the new manager.”
If appointed Caixinha is expected to be given a RRM as assistant to keep him on the straight and narrow.
The 48-year-old has four months left on his contract with Qatari aces Al-Gharafa which means that compensation will have to be paid or Sevco drop their interest and turn to Alex McLeish.
According to the latest reports Robbo, EBT Mastermind Andrew Dickson and Graham Park, son of Douglas, are in charge of recruitment and will report back to the board (Dave King) to make an appointment.
