Walter Smith has branded Celtic’s 33 point lead over Sevco as unacceptable.
After 27 matches the hoops are on course for the title with the #goingfor55 campaign lying in tatters.
Mark Warburton has departed the scene of the accident with hapless Graeme Murty left picking up the train crash.
“I wasn’t particularly surprised that Rangers ended up in second or third position in the league,” Smith told Sky Sports.
“What I was a wee bit surprised about is the number of points they are away from Celtic, but that’s a credit to Celtic and the way they’ve handled the season.
“Brendan Rodgers has had a brilliant start. Rangers find themselves 30-odd points behind Celtic which is obviously an unacceptable circumstance for a club like Rangers.”
Smith has served Sevco as a non-executive director and was chairman through the summer of 2013 as the second batch of season ticket sales were collected.
As manager of Rangers (IL) between 1991 and 1998 he enjoyed the benefits of a limitless overdraft from Gavin Masterton at Bank of Scotland.
Between 2007 and 2011 he was able to recruit players that the club couldn’t afford thanks to the EBT tax scam.
As he prepared to step down as manager in 2011 Smith nominated Ally McCoist as his successor, just over a year after Smith stepped down Rangers were place in liquidation by HMRC.
