Chelsea- tick, Swansea- tick, career off the rails- tick.

Fabio Borini’s career path sounds very similar to that of Scott Sinclair.

Tonight from Italian sources it seems that there is interest from Celtic in the Sunderland striker.

A look at the stats reveals that at five clubs he has failed to hit double figures with his total at Sunderland now reaching 16- in his fourth season.

The most prolific stage of Borini’s career was at Swansea back in season 2010/11- alongside Sinclair as Swansea reached the Premier League through the play-off’s. Six goals in eight matches helped give the Swans a final push to reach the play-off’s before a Sinclair hat-trick in the play-off final booked promotion.

A deal couldn’t be agreed to keep the striker at Swansea although nine goals in 20 matches for Roma was enough to get Liverpool to spend £10m to take him to Anfield.

With Daniel Sturridge, Mario Balotelli and Luis Suarez around Borini’s chances were limited, other than Jemain Defoe no striker has flourished at Sunderland with Borini unable to buck that trend.

The profile for a move to Celtic seems perfect, it’s very similar to Sinclair. If getting his career back on track is more important than scratching around the lower reaches of the Premier League then he could be on his way to meeting up with some old friends from his Swansea days.
