Celtic have approached Manchester City about taking Patrick Roberts on loan for next season.

According to a report in The Sun a £500,000 loan fee has been mentioned as Brendan Rodgers prepares to put his team together for next season.

The report claims that Pep Guardiola wants to assess Roberts during City’s pre-season trip to America with Celtic clearly wanting the winger to be part of their Champions League qualifying campaign.

Roberts has been on the fringes of the Celtic side for most of the season but has been Rodgers’ first choice right winger since the 2-0 Scottish Cup semi-final win over Sevco on April 23.

Earlier this week he decided to stay with Celtic for the Scottish Cup Final against Aberdeen on May 27 rather than travel with the England u-20 squad to the World Cup in South Korea.

There are likely to be other offers to City for Roberts but another season at Celtic will give him plenty of opportunity to develop his attacking skills and the prospect of playing in the Champions League.
