Glasgow City Council have been in constant contact with Sevco over safety concerns at Ibrox Stadium.

It is widely believed that over the last decade there has been little maintenance work carried with the overall appearance of the stadium deteriorating sharply.

During the course of the Craig Whyte fraud trial it emerged that £1.7m of safety work was required in 2011 but there has been no obvious sign of that work having been carried out.

Award winning blogger Phil MacGiollanhain has been in contact with GCC about safety concerns at the stadium and initially had his request blocked.

It seemed strange that safety matters at a public venue which attracts 40-50,000 fans every fortnight should be held secret with MacGiollanhain’s follow up request allowing some information to leak out.

Much like their recently published unaudited accounts it seems that the company is happy to tell regulatory bodies what they want to hear without having their reports authorised.

In an email from the Council regarding the Safety Advisory Group Meeting of 21 December the Council asked; “It is stated in the latest report provided by (REDRACTED) that there is no immediate risk to public safety. However, we need to establish how that conclusion has been reached as we have current safety concerns related to the matters raised in that report.”

The annual licence application is due in July with Celtic not expected to visit the stadium until September or October.
