Derek McInnes set the record straight last night after being accused of being disrespectful to Pedro Caixinha.

Rather than deal with another dismal performance from the best squad in Scotland the fifth best coach in Qatar decided to dig up a claim that McInnes snubbed him at Pittodrie last month.

That 3-0 win has been the high water mark for Caixinha who has watched his side lose three of their last five matches including humbling defeats to Celtic and Aberdeen at Ibrox.

With a new face and soothing foreign voice Caixinha is at Ibrox to sell season tickets to the deluded but that task becomes much harder for a club that is now nine points behind Aberdeen in third place.

Brother Pedro has been attempting to get his visionary views imposed on the Scottish game but McInnes was in no mood to let claims about disrespect from Pittodrie go unanswered.

It’s wrong, he’s wrong, I was doing my media duties as I normally do,” the Aberdeen boss explained to The Sun.

I’ve never been like that with any manager and never would be. Any manager is welcome in my office, so it’s not something you could aim at me.

He is wrong, he is mistaken. If he thinks that, maybe he should have said to me before.

Tony (assistant manager Tony Docherty) and my staff were there at the time and said he came in, had a quick glass of wine and shot away. He made his apologies for having to leave soon.

I was still doing my media work and it was no longer than any other time. I would never disrespect any manager after the game.

I might try and get into his office tonight.”

As well as his regular attacks on other clubs Caixinha refused to attend the SPFA awards night to honour the most successful managers in the country.
