Pedro Caixinha has claimed that he can spend £1m on a single player.

Despite the grim financial picture at Ibrox the former Santos Laguna chief has been assured of a significant war-chest to try and stop seven in a row.

Back to back defeats from Celtic have emphasised the gap between Sevco and Celtic with the #goingfor55 campaign ditched in favour of the failed bid to finish a strong second.

Mark Warburton blew a small fortune last summer on Joey Garner, Nick Kranjcar, Jordan Rossiter and Joey Barton with fans expecting Caixinha to spend wisely in the summer.

Sevco return for pre-season training on June 5 and face a Europa League qualifier 24 days later with Caixinha expecting to have some big money signings on his team sheet.

Asked if he could spend £1m on a single player he told the Daily Record: “Totally, if we have that need and that player is really a core player, we need to go for it.

“I know our board are covering me totally in this situation and that for me is what matters. The core of the team is presented [to the board], we’re working on it, and it’s not a question of money.

“Some money needs to be invested but it’s not a question of how much money.”

Caixinha added: “We know what we can invest, we know what we are looking for and let me tell you that is not a small amount. But it is realistic with regards to the situation we are passing.

“Will it involve a big turnaround in players? Maybe. That’s why I’m taking about a new core

With all but Pip Senderos and Clint Hill out of contract Caixinha will have to spend as much effort getting rid of players as he does bringing new faces in to challenge the hoops for the title.
