Jonny Hayes has been bowled over by his arrival in Glasgow.

Brendan Rodgers’ latest signing flew into the city on Saturday after completing his transfer from Aberdeen to a city that is a little bit different to Aberdeen in terms of footballing passion.

The great divide was best summed up by Frank McAvennie who revealed that Tommy Burns informed him that half the city hated you while the other half felt that they owned you.

As ever the truth lies somewhere in the middle of those two comments with the Glasgow of 2017 somewhat different to the city McAvennie returned to thirty years ago.

In a statement on his twitter account Hayes said: “I’ve only been in Glasgow for half a day but the way people have treated me already is something special I really do appreciate! I’m sure it can only get better once the football starts!”

With Celtic dominant the city is now much more green and white with the Celtic Shop at the airport just one symbol of the ‘balance of power’.

Hayes will inevitably come in for abuse on occasions but with no genuine Ibrox rival to Brendan Rodgers’ side Hayes should be able to enjoy the city that will be his home for the next couple of years.
