Chris Sutton has told Celtic fans that Brendan Rodgers has earned the right to play his new wife in place of Moussa Dembele.

On line hoops fans have fiercely debated Rodgers; decision to play his son Anton for 45 minutes in the friendly win over BW Linz.

Had Anton been a non-league player or hopeful coach there could have been issues but with 100 EFL appearances to his name at the age of 24 he is clearly capable.

Rodgers has gone into detail about the reasons for including his son on the Austrian trip and confirmed that Anton won’t be offered a contract at Celtic.

Sutton never hid his admiration for the way that the Irishman shook up his old club and was equally forthright when he came to discuss Anton’s Celtic appearance.

The former Celtic striker told the Daily Record: “It goes to show that Rodgers calls the shots and after what he managed last season it would be frankly ridiculous to be critical.

He’s earned the right to do whatever he likes. Brendan could play his Mrs up front in pre-season if he took the fancy.

I’m joking, of course, but there is absolutely no doubt who is in charge.

Listen, I thought it was a little bit strange having his son around. The good thing is Rodgers has already clarified his reasons and said that he won’t be signing a deal at the club.

If that wasn’t the case then it might be the issue. I have no doubt Anton’s a good pro. You can see that he’s had a decent career for a young lad and he’ll continue to do so in England.”

Former Celtic striker Henrik Larsson regularly picked his son Jordan to play for Helsingborgs before his transfer to Dutch side NEC.
