Mark Wilson has left Airdrie United (Clydebank) by mutual consent.

The former Celtic defender took charge of the League One side last November but lost out on a play-off place after losing to Alloa who then missed out on promotion to Brechin City.

Wilson was put in charge by Director of Football Gordon Dalziel with the appointment apparently inspired from the Radio Clyde Sports Desk.

While Wilson took charge of the team on a Saturday his Director of Football was elsewhere giving his thoughts of Mark Warburton, Brendan Rodgers and Pedro Caixinha.

Wilson also continued with his media career and is expected to resume that after eight months in the dug out although a statement from Airdrie claimed that ‘he wished to expand his coaching experiences’.

Despite being in League One Airdrie had a full time first team squad and will clearly be expected to be among the favourites for promotion alongside relegated Raith Rovers and Ayr United who have been relegated from the Championship.
