Spiers defends SFA

Graham Spiers made a rare MSM venture into the SFA’s decision to award Rangers a UEFA licence in 2011 by debating the matter with two prominent Celtic bloggers.

Craig Whyte’s acquittal from fraud charges has turned the spotlight back onto the SFA with any bid to put all the blame for the downfall of Rangers onto the former billionaire falling flat on it’s face.

Had the SFA refused a UEFA licence in the summer of 2011 it would have forced the club to pay off HMRC rather than signing new players and awarding Steven Davis, Allan MacGregor and Steven Whittaker new contracts.

When Ally McCoist’s side failed to beat Malmo the club stopped passing on income tax and national insurance payments to HMRC who pushed the club into administration in February 2012.

With no one credible coming forward the club went into liquidation with a tribute act currently attempting to repeat the financial madness of the old club.

The current spending spree is similar to the actions of 2011- without Financial Fair Play regulations from the SFA administration looks only a matter of time when the three bears realise that there is no prospect of ever getting their money back.
