Hearts could face Celtic on Saturday with a new manager in place or Craig Levein back in the dug out.

Today’s 2-2 draw with Dunfernline and shoot out defeat sees the Edinburgh side crash out of the League Cup with the Pars topping the group and Peterhead waiting on the outcome of the Dundee v Dundee United match to see if they go through as one of the best runners up.

Manager Ian Cathro was the target for the fans anger at the end of today’s match with the spotlight on the young coaching ‘guru’ after the midweek defeat at Peterhead.

Cathro took charge with Hearts second to Celtic in the SPFL and finished the season a distant fifth. Robbie Nielsen quit Hearts in December for MK Dons and it’s been downhill ever since for the club.

Reports of Levein having too much influence on matters was confirmed with news that the Director of Football had been in the dressing room while in a match against Aberdeen he was seen sending Jon Daly to the dug-out with instructions for Cathro.

Hearts have sold close on 14,000 season tickets but there were few Cathro fans around at the final whistle today with the club having to decided quickly whether they stick with their manager or move on.
