Brendan Rodgers has given away further details about the one signing that he wants to add to his treble winning squad.
After the 1-0 win over RW Linz the Celtic boss revealed that the new signing would deliver power, strength and quality.
Rodgers appears to be in no rush to bring in the player that he has in mind. Despite there being little movement so far in the transfer market it could be that the Celtic boss is close to bringing in his new signing.
Most supporters seem to think that a commanding central defender is the priority for the team but Rodgers’ comments have pointed towards a creative or forceful midfielder being on his mind.
Racking through players that he has previously worked with seems to narrow down the options but there are no obvious names with a Liverpool, Swansea or Chelsea connection.
Speaking after the 1-1 draw with Rapid Vienna Rodgers told The Sun: “We have one we hope can get done very soon. He is a big, big talent.
“He will be a big player if we can get him in and we are hoping that will be concluded fairly soon.
“That will be great for us. It’s been something we’ve been looking at over a period of six months.
“Celtic have been great in trying to make it happen. If it happens, it will be a great level of quality.
“There’s no timescale or percentage on it. When it’s done it’s done.
“Good money will be spent on him. The player I’m talking about is of a substantial pedigree. Like I say, the club are doing really well to do that.”
On Tuesday Celtic complete their three match pre-season tour with a trip to Prague where they will face Slavia.
