It’s a massive if but if Celtic can get through their play-off tie to reach the group phase of the Champions League they are one result away from being put into Pot 3.
Last night’s results saw the hoops lifted to become the team in Pot 4 with the highest co-efficient.
Should Napoli, Liverpool, Olympiakos Piraeus or Sevilla fail to make it through the play-off round in the non-Champions play-offs the hoops will be pushed up into Pot 3.
As things stand Celtic- if they get through the play-off round- would face Napoli, Spurs, Basel, Olympiakos, Anderlecht, Liverpool, Roma or Besiktas as Pot 3 opponents.
If the hoops step up into Pot 3 their opponents from Pot 4 would be from CSKA Moscow, Kobenhaven, Sporting Lisbon, APOEL Nicosia, Feyenoord, Maribor or RB Leipzig.
While there are some exceptions the teams in Pot 3 are generally much stronger than those in Pot 4 although there is a lot of guesswork at the moment ahead of the play off round.
Tomorrow at 11am Celtic Park Time the draw will be made with Celtic in the seeded section to face Qarabag, Astana, Rijeka, Hapoel Beer Sheva or Slavia Prague.
