Celtic are still in the market to sign a defender and a striker.

Stephen McGowan gave that reply to a fan on twitter with the Daily Mail reporter usually among the most accurate when it comes to Celtic transfer business.

The deal to sign Patrick Roberts is still ongoing although there has so far been no definite reports of the winger arriving in Glasgow or undergoing a medical.

Brendan Rodgers appeared happy in the close season with his striking and defensive options but a run of injuries have forced a change of plan.

With Moussa Dembele and Dedryck Boyata managing 15 minutes of competitive action so far this season the hoops are in need of reinforcements before the Champions League opener against Paris St Germain in 15 days time.

As well as Boyata being out injured Erik Sviatchenko is out on a longer term injury while Jozo Simunovic has missed the last three matches, two of which have been played on plastic with Celtic’s only match before facing PSG being played on the artificial surface at Hamilton’s New Douglas Park.

In attack Dembele isn’t likely to be available for the PSG match leaving Leigh Griffiths to survive two international matches plus the trip to Hamilton before he is ready to face PSG.
