Gary Mackay-Steven was rescued from the River Kelvin in the early hours of Sunday morning after 90 minutes in the freezing water.

According to a report in The Sun the former Celtic winger was pulled out of the water at 4am by paramedics suffering from hypothermia.

GMS was reported to have spent Saturday night in The Sanctuary nightclub before leaving with friends.

At around 2.40am on Sunday he found himself in the water near to Benalder Street Bridge and was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, formerly the Southern General.

Mackay=Steven left Celtic for Aberdeen last month and was an unused substitute in their 4-3 win over Partick Thistle on Saturday.

Celtic signed the winger from Dundee United in February 2015 but after initially making a big impression he slipped out of favour under Ronny Deila.

GMS was injured when Brendan Rodgers took over and moved on after making a handful of appearances in last season’s treble winning squad.
