Fox Sports viewers in the USA were treated to a simple truth that has been denied to their counterparts in the UK- ‘Rangers’ are a new club.

Delivering the message was veteran Sky Sports broadcaster Martin Tyler who was commentating on the Celtic v Astana Champions League Play Off.

Giving some background to the casual American viewer Tyler explained about the demise of the ‘old Rangers’ saying: “The demise of the old Rangers and the demotion to start again as a new club and finally got themselves back to make the Old Firm games, which were badly missed.”

The phrase new club is one that almost all UK media outlets avoid despite referring to the tribute act in that manner as they were formed.

Rangers were still in membership of the SFA when a temporary membership was granted to allow the tribute act to play Brechin City in the Challenge Cup. The SFA didn’t have a temporary membership category.

Attempts to rewrite history to favour the continuation myth fall down on many grounds with the new club entering the Challenge Cup and starting off in the Scottish Cup and League Cup at the first round stage.

The club currently being liquidated finished the 2011/12 in second place but didn’t enter the UEFA Champions League qualifiers with Motherwell taking their place.
