Robinson on Motherwell penalty claims

Stephen Robinson refused to blame Bobby Madden for Motherwell’s defeat from Sevco.

The Fir Park side had two good penalty claims waved before Sevco were awarded a penalty that allowed Graham Dorrans to net the winner.

After a slow start there was little between the two teams as Robinson’s side pushed Pedro Caixinha’s big spenders all the way.

Asked afterwards about the penalty decisions Robinson told The Sun: “We potentially could have had a penalty ourselves and we’ve lost goals from two set-plays.

I haven’t seen their penalty again. I was far away from it and didn’t get enough of a view to comment myself.

Louis said it wasn’t a penalty and that he went to challenge for the ball and the lad went down.

But we should have taken care of the game ourselves – without blaming anyone else.

The players told me Ryan Bowman might have had a penalty for a push on him and they also claimed Hodson handled the ball.

They are tough decisions to make but referees have got a hard job and there’s no point me sitting here and vilifying referees.”

Dorrans scored an early goal for the visitors before Ben Heneghan equalised shortly before half-time.

The game could have gone either way during the second half with Caixinha starting the match with five players that he inherited from Mark Warburton with another two used as substitutes.

On Saturday Sevco host Hibs with Neil Lennon’s side making a winning return to the top division with a 3-1 win over Partick Thistle.

The Ibrox clash is the first meeting of the two clubs since the 2016 Scottish Cup Final which the Edinburgh side won 3-2.
