Chris Sutton is confident that Patrick Roberts will end the transfer window as a Celtic player.

Last night’s 11pm wild card signing deadline came and went without any rush of activity as the winger watched Manchester City’s match against Girona from the substitutes bench.

Celtic take on Astana tonight without being able to call on the England u-20 winger but BT Sport pundit Sutton has no doubt that Roberts will soon return to Celtic Park.

I’ve had it on good authority that Patrick Roberts will sign for Celtic,” he said. “100% the player wants to come, it’s just a case of dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s.

He was such a key player for Celtic the longer the season went on and he would be a game-changer for them, especially at Champions League level. He would be a stunning signing.”

Roberts spent 18 months on loan to Celtic and signed off after the Scottish Cup Final win over Aberdeen.

Celtic have made it clear to Manchester City that they are keen to bring the winger back to Glasgow- either on loan or in a permanent transfer.

It seems that City would prefer that the former Fulham kid took up other options but by all accounts Roberts preference is to return to Celtic.

Southampton seem to be the most realistic competitors to Celtic but it looks like Roberts and City will have to come to an agreement with Celtic sitting anxiously on the sidelines.
