Pedro Caixinha doesn’t think that Celtic’s £30m Champions League bonus will effect his title dream.
Rather than watch the hoops demolish Astana the Porsche driving Ibrox boss spent his night watching a team from Greece against another from Croatia.
Five months ago Caixinha inherited the best squad in Scotland and drove then into third place in the SPFL a mammoth 39 points behind the champions.
After getting dumped out of the Europa League in the first round by Progres Niederkorn the fifth best coach in Qatar has had a free week to prepare his side to face Hearts.
Getting along to Celtic Park to study the champions in their biggest match of the season would have been a no brainer for most coaches but the arrogant former Santos Laguna boss had better things to do with his time.
“I watched Olympiakos against Rijeka, not Celtic,” the former Panathinaikos assistant told the Daily Record. “I only know their result. But, yes, it’s a question of money and if you have more you can invest more.
“However, if Celtic have more or less money is not my concern. My only concern is to know everyone at this club is working together.
“When I was younger and I was living in a building some of my neighbours had a Porsche. Of course I thought one day I would like to drive a Porsche but I didn’t care they had one and I didn’t.
“However, I knew which way I was heading. Today I have a Porsche and I can drive a Porsche. This is the way you need to go.
“Football is about quality, it is about players. If you have more money supposedly you might get better players but you need to spend it wisely. It’s not only about budgets.
“I am happy with the team we have and the effort we are putting in together as a football club, from top to bottom. From the chairman, the board of directors, the technical staff and, of course, the players.
“We all work hard to get the club on the right direction. We don’t care what the others are doing, we just know in which direction we are heading.”
In his last half dozen games at Ibrox Caixinha has watched his side get turned over by Celtic, Aberdeen and Hibs.
