Tom Rogic faces an overnight wait to find out if Australia have booked an automatic place in the World Cup Finals or if he faces two more Play Off rounds.

Australia left it late today to beat Thailand 2-1 which sees them complete their group three points above Saudi Arabia who face Japan at 6.30pm UK time today.

With Japan already assured of the place in Russia next summer the Saudi’s know that a home win will also see them book their place in the finals.

Australia require a draw or a win for Japan to go through automatically but a home win will take Saudi Arabia through on goal difference.

If Australia finish third they face a play-off against the other third placed Asian side which could involve Syria or Uzbekistan followed by a another play-off against the fourth best team in CONCACAF which could be the USA.

Rogic was heavily involved as Australia laid siege on the Indonesia goal but it wasn’t until the 73rd minute that they took the lead through Tomi Juric.

Against the run of play Thailand equalised in the 82nd minute but four minutes later Mat Leckie popped up with the winner to keep alive Australia’s hopes of automatic qualification.
