Bungling Don Robertson will referee Friday night’s match between Hamilton Accies and Celtic.

In April the young whistler caused uproar when he awarded Ross County a penalty against Celtic when Alex Shalk took a spectacular dive in the penalty box with at least three fee of fresh air between the Dutch cheat and Erik Sviatchenko.

Robertson looked a bag of nerves as he awarded the penalty which gave Ross County a point in one of the four matches that Celtic failed to win in last season’s SPFL title win.

After the match Shalk was given a two match suspension while a red card for Scott Brown was reduced to a yellow on appeal.

Joining Robertson at the Superseal Stadium is assistant referee Graham Chambers who was in the spotlight in March 2015 when he got Virgil van Dijk and Paul Paton sent off 11 minutes into a Scottish Cup tie at Tannadice.

On appeal van Dijk’s offence was reduced to a yellow card while Paton was cleared for mistaken identity.

Chambers had raced on to the pitch to drag Calum Butcher away from the incident then identified Paton as the culprit.

Friday’s appointment completes a busy week for Robertson who takes charge of the France v Kazakhstan u-21 international tonight.
