Brendan Rodgers was shocked to see footage of Pedro Caixinha confronting Scott Brown at Ibrox.

While the hoops boss was heading down the tunnel to prepare his half time team talk the fifth best coach in Qatar was diverting attention from his side to Scott Brown.

Flanked by two assistants in the classic ‘haud me back’ position Caixinha decided to confront Brown about an imaginary elbowing incident during the match.

It was the actions of a failure, a man desperate to take the heat off his own failings and someone who knows that his own players can’t get close to the Celtic skipper by legal means.

Discussing the incident on TalkSPORT Rodgers said: “I didn’t see it until afterwards to be honest but obviously I was surprised when I watched it.

“At half time as a manager you want to get in as quick as you can because it’s a vital period for you. You want to get your message to the players and get ready for that.

“I think that Broony has been absolutely outstanding since I’ve been here in all seven games against Rangers.

He’s a big game player and in particular at Ibrox he’s been outstanding so yeah I only seen it afterwards but like I say it’s not something you really want to see as a manager.

You want to get in and get your work done and get your message to the players but like I say Brown was brilliant in the game and he’s a top player.”

The half-time talk in the away dressing room was certainly more effective with Celtic scoring twice in the opening 20 minutes of the second half.

With the game done and dusted Rodgers was able to bring off some of his key players for Anderlecht and give Moussa Dembele a run out before the clash with the Belgian champions.
