Alan Stubbs has warned Sevco fans that they are a couple of years away from mounting a title challenge.

Excitement is building in anticipation of a four goal winning margin at Firhill tonight to put Pedro Caixinha’s ‘All Stars’ at the top of the table.

Even though victories tomorrow for Celtic, Aberdeen and St Johnstone would put Sevco back in fourth place just being top for a couple of hours has sparked delusions of a first ever Premiership trophy.

Soft loans north of £20m that are due to be repaid in December and a Europa League KO from Progres Niederkorn appear to have been airbrushed away but Stubbs delivered an unwelcome dose of reality this morning.

Joining Alan Brazil and the gardener that led the old club into liquidation on TalkSPORT this morning the former Hibs boss was asked if the tribute act could put in a fight for the title.

In terms of a fight with Celtic, no,” Stubbs stated. “They’re not close enough yet. We’re not talking months, we’re talking years.

Another two, three years before they get close, it might even be more.

They’ll certainly be better than last year. Pedro’s came through some early criticism early on and has the chance to go top now.”

The two/three year answer seems to be a favourite with no suggestion offered of what is likely to change during that period.

With a clamp down on tax scams and no wealthy blue nose prepared to pour their money down the drain it will be require a foreign sugar daddy to finance a challenge to Celtic.
