There was little expectation among Celtic fans over a late flurry of transfer activity with Odsonne Edouard the only deadline day arrival.
Up until last season the 19-year-old was one of the brightest prospects in the French game but a police incident and record of one goal for Toulouse in a loan deal that went wrong painted him in a poor light.
The facts behind the loan shed some light on his time at Toulouse which consisted on just four starts and 14 appearances as a substitute.
That sort of experience can be demoralising for any player with Celtic having to find a way of getting him match sharp and ready to step in for Leigh Griffiths or Moussa Dembele.
Edouard hasn’t played a competitive match so far this season but will find that Celtic’s Development League schedule decimated over the next couple of months to accommodate the UEFA Youth Cup which involves the u-19 side playing against Paris St Germain, Anderlecht and Bayern Munich.
The immediate priority for Brendan Rodgers is to have a ready made back up should his top two strikers be unavailable but in the medium term he’ll want to assess Edouard for a permanent move.
