A deal had been agreed with Ajax Cape Town but the detail of the medical left Celtic with no option but to call the deal off.
Despite that issue Mamelodi Sundowns stepped in with an offer to sign the defender who has picked up 22 full international caps.
Coetzee has still to make his Sundowns debut with conflicting reports about the condition of his right foot and whether surgery is required or not.
