Derek Johnstone has warned Pedro Caixinha to keep on winning or else.

The former Rangers (IL) striker has carved out a career echoing the thoughts of various Ibrox regimes and uses his media platforms with Radio Clyde and the Evening Times to get the message across.

Friday’s 4-1 win at Hamilton held the critics at bay but with Aberdeen six points ahead in the battle for second place and Kenny Miller in a huff no problems have been solved.

Only a cold heart would fail to be moved by Daniel Candeias racing to embrace Caixinha on the touchline after scoring at Hamilton but any points dropped at St Johnstone on Friday the 13th will have the critics baying for blood.

The only way that Pedro will keep his job is if he wins games and he is successful,” Johnstone warned in the Evening Times. “Managers don’t get long these days and if you don’t do the business then the fans will be on your back.

The only thing that matters is winning matches. I don’t think Rangers were great on Friday, but it was a good win for us.

It is fine for the players to show affection for the manager, but they need to perform for him on a more consistent basis and win week after week.

If that happens, Pedro will feel better, the fans won’t be as critical and the pressure on him and the team will ease.

The only way he is going to get rid of that is by getting the team playing and getting the team winning more often and that has to start sooner rather than later.”

Caixinha has failed to win three matches on the trot since taking over from Mark Warburton but has been given good news on the injury front.

Bruno Alves has trained with Portugal while influential midfielder Jordan Rositer is expected to resume full training in 7-10 days following a minor leg injury.
