A campaign to install Ally McCoist as the new Sevco boss is underway through his broadcasting friends.

Pedro Caixinha had barely cleared his plate at the Caffe Parma when the former Question of Sport skipper appeared on BBC Radio 5 Live pretending to be hard to get.

The usual cliches were trotted out about the club he loves (especially after a year on gardening leave and picking up shares for 1 pence that fans paid 70p for).

This morning, at 6am, McCoist switched over to the TalkSPORT studio where he co-hosted the Breakfast Show with Alan Brazil.

Jim Whyte made a very early appearance where he grilled a ‘reluctant’ McCoist on the vacancy with both men admitting that it needed someone who understood the club.

White was in full ‘Brian Laudrup mode’ explaining how the job required someone that understood the culture and traditions of the club.

It seems to some that 2012 never really happened and that a change of manager can restore the good old days or at least provide a challenge to Celtic.

With the club finances an absolute basket case propped up by loans from the guy whose son appointed Caixinha it’ll take a miracle for Sevco to win their first ever national trophy.

After his first disastrous attempt at management no other club has been prepared to consider giving McCoist another job but with his Real Rangers credentials it seems that he could be talking his way back into the blue room of dignity.

In season 2011/12 McCoist managed Rangers into liquidation on the back of defeats from Malmo and Maribor, as Sevco managed he was in charge of humiliating cup defeats to Queen of the South, Forfar, Raith Rovers and Alloa.
