Thomas O’Ware reckons that Kenny Miller is back to his brilliant best.

The Morton defender watched from the bench as Miller returned to top team action in a closed doors kick about at Murray Park after the glamour friendly with Benfica was postponed due to low ticket sales.

Miller was expected to miss the match with Benfica but it now seems that he is back to being an essential part of Pedro Caixinha’s plans.

Details are thin on the ground about the match against Morton but O’Ware gave the Daily Record a glowing report on Miller’s impact.

Rangers fielded a strong side with all their big stars featuring in the game,” the Championship defender said. “It was more or less their full starting 11.

James Tavernier, Fabio Cardoso, Danny Wilson, Declan John, Daniel Candeias, Graham Dorrans, Ryan Jack, Josh Windass, Carlos Pena and Alfredo Morelos all played some part in the game.

Kenny Miller also came on and scored Rangers third goal to make it 3-2 to them. Miller was just his usual self from what I witnessed. He just seems to come alive whenever the ball comes near the box.

He’s always on the move. He looked very sharp and is deadly in front of goal. He looked and played like the player we’ve all come to know and respect. He’s actually a horrible player to play against.

When Miller came on I remember turning to one of the other centre-backs who was also on the bench at that point and we both just smiled.

It was more relief than anything else that we weren’t on the park trying to cope and deal with him.

We both said at the same time, ‘Thank goodness for that’. Miller is just one of the players you need to mark and watch at all times. His movement is first class.”

With three goals lost to a Championship side it’s likely that Caixinha will be working closely with his defenders this week.

Sevco travel to face St Johnstone on Friday in a match that could go a long way to deciding which club will finish in third place.

With Ryan Jack suspended after being sent off against Hamilton Accies Caixinha has got the perfect chance to bring Miller back in from the cold.
