Simunovic injury fear

Jozo Simunovic could be out of action until Christmas.

News that the defender has a tirn hamstring is the worst possible news for Brendan Rodgers ahead of a crucial run of fixtures.

Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata played together against Sevco and Anderlecht with the hoops boss hoping that the partnership was ready to settle down and develop.

Reporting on the defender’s injury Xibhuanet explained Bosnian international team doctor Reuf Karabeg saying: “Head coach Mehmed Bazdarevic and I talked to his doctor and from him we got access to all the documentation on the injury’s condition. The findings of the magnetic resonance clearly show the rupture of the back and the hematoma four centimeters long.”

A hamstring strain is bad enough, a tear is a much more serious issue requiring time to heal before the player can resume full training.

Missing out on the international double-header is the least of the concerns with Rodgers back to square one in terms of his central defence.

Boyata made his third appearance of the season against Hibs on Saturday with just the home match against Dundee a week on Saturday to try out a new combination before facing Bayern Munich.

Mikael Lustig, Nir Bitton and Kristoffer Ajer are all options or a three man defensive unit of Boyata, Lustig and Kieran Tierney could be put together.
