Caixinha’s Mexican legacy

Sevco are committed to paying Mexican aces Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera £5.5m without bonuses.

Pedro Caixinha signed the duo during the summer and while the fifth best coach in Qatar has been axed it’s almost impossible to do the same with players.

Pena and Herrera have did very little since they arrived at Ibrox with neither featuring in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Partick Thistle.

Friday’s audited accounts presented grim reading for Ibrox shareholders with the legacy of Caixinha explained in today’s Daily Record.

In an article about the possibility of Derek McInnes moving to Ibrox some of the issues he will inherit were explained.

The Record stated: “It won’t be an easy job to get rid of two manager’s junk, especially when the likes of Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera are taking home more than £40,000 a week between them for two and half more years – but McInnes won’t most probably relish the challenge so long as feels his vision for fixing Rangers is being properly, unequivocally supported.

And that’s why what happens over the next few days could prove so crucial.

The longer Rangers stall, the more they flirt with the notion of going after someone far less obvious, the more McInnes may wonder if this is a call he really wants to take.”

Despite constant speculation about McInnes moving from Aberdeen to Ibrox the prospect of Graham Murty getting the job appear to be increasing.

With Celtic set to take the title questions will be asked about the value of paying out compensation and adding the cost of a new management team to the payroll for little real difference in final league position.

Allowing Murty to fail later in the season and bringing in an exciting new face ahead of season ticket sales may be more enticing than sending a cheque to Aberdeen or hoping for McInnes to resign.

Better news for Sevco fans is that Jordan Rossiter is expected to resume full training in 7-10 days after recovering from a groin strain. The former England youth star is under contract until 2020
